Valentine's Dance Party

Carter and I had a private Valentine's dance party. I took the video below of Carter doing his thing. You really want to watch the whole thing. You are welcome.

After arriving home from Boise (more on Thomas and Carter's ski trip another day) after midnight the night before, Thomas had a 6:40am flight to NYC on Valentines' day. It was just a day trip, so he made it home in time for our traditional (11 years running, as best we can figure) Valentine's dinner, but he missed the dancing.

Double artichokes this year. Double the healthy in our once-a-year otherwise-fried feast.

Ten Years of Valentine's Day Tradition

As we prepared our traditional Valentine's meal of chicken fried steak, fried okra and steamed artichokes, it occurred to me that it is our tenth Valentine's Day together, and our tenth artery-clogging, delicious V-day feast. A look back at our photos revealed that we only started taking pictures a few years ago, and that every picture we have of our Valentine's Day dinner consists of Thomas, wearing a green shirt, looking up at the camera from in front of his full plate. So, this year, we decided to mix it up. You get me, wearing a green shirt, looking up at the camera from in front of my full plate.

Valentine's

No, our heart-shaped dinner on the 13th did not replace our traditional valentines dinner. We did that, too!

Happy Valentine's Day

Pink milk and balloons! What more could a boy want for valentine's? (Decorate-my-own cookies? We did that, too.)

Snow Day Projects

This morning, in honor of the snowy day, Carter and I made chocolate chip pancakes and glittery snowflakes.

Carter is getting very good at cutting. He cut 24 very good hearts for valentines for his class and he did about half the cutting on these snowflakes (cutting over lines I drew for him in both cases).

Valentine's Day

On Saturday night, we enjoyed our traditional chicken fried steak, fried okra and steamed artichoke Valentine's day feast. Carter didn't get any of that, but he did get some of our chocolate cinnamon mousse, which he enjoyed mightily.

Recent Video

For your Valentine's Day viewing pleasure, we present this short video in which Carter dances, trust-falls, bangs on things and generally demonstrates his personality for you. He talks a little, too. I considered putting on subtitles, but I think you can make most of his words (and I couldn't be bothered to do the subtitles). It's just a string of pretty random video, but I thought we were overdue for a video post, so here you go.

Valentine's Day

Continuing our annual tradition, Thomas and I cooked chicken fried steak, fried okra and artichokes for dinner tonight. It is a dinner we are happy to eat once a year -- and it is a dinner our bodies are happy we eat ONLY once a year!

Thomas digs in.

Thomas takes a break from fried to contemplate our love.

Thomas prepares to indulge in the one wildcard of our Valentines night - dessert. This year, it was chocolate-cinnamon mousse with cherry-port sauce (we had to come up with something yummy... we've counted on Billy's Bakery for dessert for years!)

Happy V-day from the Flower Princess

We aren't sure where this bib came from - probably a mix up at the cleaners where we used to have our laundry done, but, since we had it, we figured, "it's valentine's day, why not?" So here's sweet Carter in his Flower Princess bib. And if you look closely (click the picture to enlarge it) you can see his two teeth!
