Space Pod

For Christmas, Kirstin and Patrick got Carter this amazing kit to help you build a cardboard fort (the kit was specifically for a space pod). Carter and I built his fort this weekend. He LOVED playing in it! Look how great it is!

So neat, right!? We can reuse the fasteners again and again (if he ever lets us disassemble this one!)

His control panel, inside the pod

John was only allowed in for a few short minutes

It's the perfect getaway for a 6.5 year old, complete with a pillow, blanket, bey blades, journal, iPod, snacks, stickers, and notes from mom and dad (delivered via a slot in the front of the pod).

Snow Day

This snow day actually provided snow, and winter activities!

Sledding

 Maple Syrup Real Snow Cones!

Yes, that's Carter in a Spiderman costume with enhanced pecs. It's the only thing he wears indoors these days...

Also - I was supposed to be headed to Maine today (and then drive to Boston on Wednesday). Needless to say, that didn't happen. Between the Atlanta storm and the upcoming northeastern one, I'm not sure if I'll make it out this week or not!

Arkansas Trip - Riverfront Park

On Sunday, while Mom worked and the men played golf, Carter and I took a trip to Little Rock. After lunch with Mimi, we met up with Jyll and Caleb to play. We went to the playground on the riverfront, which is now one of my favorite playgrounds of all time. It has lots of tunnels built into the ground, and lots of places for kids to climb. It's a bit difficult to keep up with your kid, since you can't always predict where he'll pop up, but otherwise, it's a great play area.

Arkansas Trip - Magic Springs

We spent last Saturday at Magic Springs. Carter enjoyed the amusement park as much as he did last fall, and this time he even loved the pirate ship. This time, the water park was also open. We'd been promising to take Carter to a water park when he became a better swimmer. While he's not 100% there yet, he's had HUGE improvements over the last month, so we were so happy to get to take him. He had a good time, but the cooler weather and his lack of body fat made for a chilly time!

Arkansas Trip - Day on the Lake

We had a terrific long weekend in Arkansas with my parents. Here are some shots from our first full day, spent on the lake in Hot Springs Village. It was surprisingly cool and windy, which would have been nicer, had we not planned entirely for activities designed to keep us cool.

Kayaking in the morning
Thomas armed with water squirters
On the boat in the afternoon
T attempting to water ski
And... failing.

Bowling!

Carter had his first bowling experience today at a friend's birthday party. Instead of the old school inflatable gutter guards, they had these cool retractable rails that would go up or down based on the age of the player. They also had these ramps that the kids put the ball on to let gravity roll the ball for them (very hard to describe; just trust me that the 3 and 4 year olds wouldn't have been doing much bowling without them). Not sure if his favorite part was the bowling, the cake or the trophy! But it definitely might have been the bowling. He wants to go back soon!

A Lovely Saturday

My family started the drive back to Arkansas on Saturday morning, leaving us to our own devices for the rest of the weekend.

Yesterday, we joined and explored the Atlanta Botanic Garden.
(which Carter heartily enjoyed)
(due, in no small part, to the holiday train they have running around the great lawn...)
Then we had lunch that made us each very happy, though in different ways (Carter - corn dog and mac n' cheese, Me - smoked tofu, Thomas - world's tallest burger)
And then, after Carter went to bed, Thomas and I lounged in front of a fire (it's finally cold enough at night!) and caught up on TV.

An excellent Saturday.

Weekend

We had a fun weekend! On Friday night, we went to the Braves/Red Sox game.
Thanks to Matthew for getting us such great seats!

Carter and Mama got matching airbrushing (at Carter's insistence, though Elizabeth didn't really mind the paint -- or the glitter).

On Saturday night, we had a grown-up date night!

On Sunday night, Park, Ashley and Anna came over for some playin' and some grillin'. Park got all the good pictures, so you may want to check their blog in days to come for some better pics of Carter and Anna playing.
