Scary, Sweet, Dressed Up Fun

Our Karate Kid

I dressed up as Carter.
(Yes, I can totally wear his shirt, hoodie and hat. Jeans and shoes are mine. Bracelets and necklace also belong to him, but are one size fits all.)

After a lot of work, about half the kids were wrangled for a photo op

John's very first trick-or-treat!
He REALLY turned on the cute with his "Thank you!" and "See you tomorrow!"s. AT the very first house, there was a dog, and after he got his candy he said, "Thank you, dog. Woof! Woof!"
Carter insists that he is NOT TIRED

Thomas wants you to think that he feels like this. But John's first trick-or-treat totally melted his soul.

Homemade Halloween

This is actually Carter's secondary Halloween costume. On Halloween night, he'll be playing karate kid (the original). But since he also needs to dress up for afterschool on Wednesday, and because his school usually does book character dress-up day sometime in the fall, we created this additional costume.

Afterwards, I took a ballpoint pen and wrote Anaklusmos on it for him to carry in his pocket. He was excited until he realized that it did not, in fact, turn into a sword. (This probably only makes sense to you if you're familiar with the books).

We are currently reading book 3, having finished book 2 recently and having just seen the second movie this weekend.

Given that my natural interest in books aligns very closely with that of tween boys and teen girls, this is my second time through them, but it's fun to be enjoying them together!

Halloween

We were lucky to have Mama Helen visiting over Halloween. She continues to be Carter's costume supplier. Last year, Carter decided on November 1 that he wanted to be Captain America this year. And he stuck to that plan all year long! John used Sammy's hand-me-down Mickey Mouse costume. But everyone thought he was a ladybug.

Check out Thomas' costume. He wore that to work all day.

Carter and Mama Helen made a pumpkin cake using two bundt cakes.

For the second year, we did trick-or-treating with some of Carter's buddies from school

Pumpkin' Patchin' 2012

Our 5th year at the pumpkin patch, John's second (but first where he wasn't asleep!)

Halloween

We broke with tradition this year and/or we started a new tradition this year. Carter chose to spend this Halloween with his friends. We missed trick-or-treating with Cart Cart and Nonna, but we couldn't deny Carter a chance to trick-or-treat with his school pals.

We discovered that Carter is the fastest trick-or-treater on the block. He gets down to business.

Cutest bat you've ever seen, right?

A big thanks to Mama Helen for the amazing costumes!!

We didn't let him wear the teeth until tonight for fear he'd lose them. Surprisingly, he kept up with them all night long!

John seemed okay with Halloween at first, then he wasn't so sure, and finally he resolved that he'd just sleep through it.

That's a lot of kindergarten boys.

I vant to eat your candy!

More Halloween-ing

It seems like Halloween has been going on forever, and it is still a week away! Here are some pictures from Sunday's adventure at the botanical gardens.

Parades

Yesterday afternoon, Thomas, Carter & John went to the high school homecoming parade. It was VERY exciting because his teacher was driven one of the floats.

Then, today, we were all in the Little 5 Points Halloween parade. His music school had a float and we all participated. We shrouded John's stroller in spiderweb fabric rather than risking spit up on his costume. We're saving that for Halloween. Carter, however, gave his costume a trial run, minus the teeth. Quite a few people expressed surprise when they realized that there was a "real baby!" in our stroller.
