Baby Faces

Just in case you needed a baby fix.

And yes, you can follow the progression of the facial injuries in these pics.

Arkansas Trip Part II

It was great to see all the improvements that mom and dad have made at the cabin.

On Sunday we took a stroll through the much improved Little Rock Zoo.

Patrick and Kirstin had great wedding showers.

And it was nice to see so family and friends that we hadn't seen in far too long.

Arkansas Trip Part I

First of all, a big thanks to Delta at Atlanta Hartsfield Airport. Both ways we were able to find a jungle gym in the terminal for Carter to burn off some energy.

And then there was more fun to be had at Mama Helen and Daddy Phil's house. This toy was a particularly big hit.

As was the rocking chair that was mine when I was little.

Carter and Esther got along famously. He liked her kisses.

She liked his food.

Home

Carter and I made it back to New York safely and on time tonight. Sorry that I didn't manage to get to a computer while we were gone. More detail and pictures will have to wait until another day because I'm headed back to the airport at 6am for a quick business trip to DC. I'll try to post pics of our trip tomorrow night.

Arrived

Carter and I arrived safely in Little Rock this morning. Traveling alone with him on my lap wasn't too bad - thanks to the fact that both flights were mostly empty so we had entire rows to ourselves.

We are headed to the cabin for two nights and then will be back here for two nights before heading home on Sunday. I forgot the cord to download pics from my camera, but I'll try to post some pics this weekend from my mom's camera.

I'm pretty excited to be going to the cabin - I haven't been in over a year and a half and Carter has never been (unless you count the embryonic state).

Another Beautiful Day

We spent most of the day enjoying the weather in our back yard.

Carter explored the yard (and tried to eat many things that he shouldn't).
I have some flowers blooming!
The boys in their matching caps.
Carter still likes grilled meat.
And he still thinks he'd like beer.

Baseball!

It's really feeling like spring now! Today, the weather was warm, and we went to our first baseball game of the season! I had my company's season tickets, so our seats were great and it was a perfect day for baseball. Here are a few pics from the game.

Meat...Good

Just to explain quickly, Carter does NOT prefer tofu to meat, he just seems to like it and it is quite easy to make (well, cut up). Carter's first meat experience was when the Kimbro's were in town so it got lost in all the excitement. It was a turkey burger (with lots of Worcestershire sauce) cooked on the grill. That's right, his first meat was as it should be, cooked over an open flame (well, a gas powered controlled flame), but it was close enough. There were grill marks and we were cooking outside. Carter's discovery of meat is summarized in the following photos:

"What's this? Food? Looks and feels kinds weird, but I guess I could put it in my mouth. I do that with everything else, so why not."

"Not so bad, it's pretty fun to play with, and maybe it is food after all."

"Mmmmmm. Meat good"

Business Trips

Yesterday I had a day trip to DC. And it was a LONG day. I left the house at 8am and, though I landed back in NY at 10pm, I didn't get home until nearly 1:30am because I had to wait at the airport until almost 1am for my pump, which didn't make it on my flight (and which I had to check due to its forbidden contents of milk and ice). Then, this morning, I discovered that a part on my pump had been broken in transit in such a way that the pump doesn't pump. And since I am headed back to DC well before the crack of dawn tomorrow (mere hours from now) for an overnight trip, I am having a replacement part overnighted to the office where my meeting will be tomorrow (thank you UPS - and a special thanks to my corporate expense account, which will be picking up the tab for the rush delivery).

I think that the universe is definitely trying to tell me that it is about time to give up the pumping! I'll be back in DC for another day trip on the 30th and am hoping to travel without my pump that day...

I'll be home from DC late Friday afternoon and am very much looking forward to the weekend.

Food, Glorious Food

Carter is really enjoying feeding himself finger foods. Of the foods we've given him in the last couple of weeks, here are how they stack up in order of his most to least favorite:

1. Tofu
2. Black beans
3. Noodles
4. Cheese
5. Pear

Weird, huh?

I'll leave it to Thomas to post about the food that got him started on this whole finger food kick...grilled meat. (I left it off the list above because how could you possible compare grilled meat to the others?)

We're Still Here

Sorry we haven't posted this week. I have been crazy busy at work, and will likely continue to be for the next few weeks, so start harassing Thomas to post!

Carter is feeling much better and is back to his usual self. He is on a roll with eating solid foods these days and definitely prefers feeding himself to being fed by us. He and I started a new music class today - we'll have it every Saturday morning for 10 weeks. We had a lot of fun in class today (the teacher looks quite a bit like our friend Mike Kass). We've also been enjoying the green market in the park on Saturdays (and the playgrounds too).

Thomas has been seeing an ear, nose and throat doctor for the last couple of weeks and (unsurprisingly) has been diagnosed with really, really bad sinus problems. He's having surgery to get fixed up in mid-May.

Here are a few pics of after bath-time antics from this evening.

Kitchen Fun

His Mama Helen let him play in the kitchen when she was here, but otherwise, Carter hadn't been allowed to play in the kitchen until this past weekend. He very much enjoyed the kitchen - particularly the strategically-placed pot lids and Tupperware.

Happy Easter!

Not wanting to restrict the fun to just one day, Carter has been enjoying his Easter baskets all week (thanks, grandparents!).
Thomas and I are very much enjoying the sugary contents of the baskets. Carter likes the eggs.
And then today, Joo brought a very big treat. (Yes, that does say "Diva Da' Bunny").

Today was somewhat low-key, nothing like the eggstravaganza of 06 (see below),

but it was lovely (if a bit cold). We played at home, dyed eggs, had brunch with Joo and went to the playground.

Tot Lot

There is a very cute miniature playground for crawlers and toddlers in Prospect Park. Carter and I played there this morning after we hit the green market. He loved trying to crawl up the slide, but his favorite thing was looking in the mirror!
(Sorry, all I had with me was my crappy camera phone.)

Thank You Kirstin!

Kirstin has been a life saver this week! Carter is feeling better, and he was finally able to go back to school today, but the last two days Kirstin has come over to stay with Carter so that we could get some work done. Carter has been so happy to get to spend the time with her - and we are very grateful that she was able to help!

It's Back

Health seems to elude us. A mere three days after Carter was declared ear infection free, he has come down with a bigger, badder type of ear infection that comes with complimentary pink eye! He's on eye drops, skin cream, antibiotics and an herbal supplement. Poor boy is being poked, prodded and stuffed with medicine a total of 11 times a day (which also makes going to work a bit of a challenge).

Still, his spirits are comparatively high. He had lots of fun with Kirstin today, who came over to help out so that I could get some work done. (Thanks again, Kir!)
