More Turner Field Tour

The Turner Field tour was actually pretty cool, so I thought I would post a few more pix, just because I can! Original post here.
Carter's awesome outfit.

On the field. ("Do NOT touch the grass!")

Fun playing on another giant number (Jackie Robinson).

St. Patrick's Day

In lieu of making our own green food (ok, Eli making green food), we decided to catch a happy hour at the Irish pub down the street. Full but not too crowded, and a face painter to boot! Carter and his friend Maury got their faces painted, and they really enjoyed it. The final results were slightly unexpected, but the boys were the traditional St. Pat's Day Skeletons!

Spring Training Trip

As has been alluded to, I took a trip to Orlando with Cart Cart and the other Fowlkes' to see the Braves spring training for an extra long weekend. It was filled with lots of baseball watching, lots of eating (steak, hibachi, ribs, etc.), and admittedly not that many pictures. But here are a few: Champion's Stadium is the Braves stadium at Disney where they play. It is a great sports complex with multiple baseball fields where all levels major and minor league practice, lacrosse, field house for cheerleading (mostly, as best I can tell), and others. And of course, it's all branded Disney!

Sammy had a great time hanging out with the guys for a couple of days, watching ball and wearing sunglasses. He did have a hard time getting that monkey off his back, though.

Sammy did like the lacrosse net on the back field.

We all also went to Sea World and had a great time, saw the Shamu show, and rode the carousel.

For more pictures, see them other Fowlkes' blog post!

Turner Field

Thomas still owes you a post on spring training, but in the meantime, here's another baseball excursion...

Yesterday, we took a tour of Turner Field (where the Braves play) with Cart Cart and Park.

Carter dressed himself especially for the occasion: too small basketball shorts, a braves t-shirt, a cape and his cowboy boots.

Fastnacht Day

On Fat Tuesday, while Thomas was in Orlando, Carter and I spent the evening at friends Kirsten and Al's house celebrating Fastnacht Day.

According to my good friend Wikipedia:

A Fasnacht, sometimes spelled Fastnacht or Faschnacht, is a fatty doughnut treat served traditionally on Fastnacht Day (Shrove Tuesday), the day before Lent starts. Fasnachts were made as a way to empty the pantry of lard, sugar, fat, and butter, which were traditionally fasted from during Lent....Basel, Switzerland conducts an annual fasnacht festival. The Pennsylvania Deutsch territory surrounding Lancaster, Pennsylvania, celebrates the custom as well.
Kirsten & Al are from PA, and it has always been a big tradition in her house. Kirsten's mom was even there to help with the Fastnacht making and eating!

Carter observes how to shake on the sugar coating. Moments later, he became the most vigorous sugar shaker that anyone has ever seen. We had to quadruple bag the sugar lest he shake the bottom out of it!

By the time Carter and I left, we had the record for most Fastnachts consumed!

Just a little rant...

Thomas has several recent-happenings posts that will be upcoming, but in the meantime, just a little rant...

If one more of Carter's teammates' parents uses the team connection to attempt to sell me something, I may have to boycott sports teams altogether. At least until he's old enough to be dropped off so I'm not a sitting duck for other parents/salesmen who know full well that I don't have anywhere else to be.

Does this really usually work? Oh, you coached my kids team, of course I'll be happy to recommend your totally unrelated business on Linked In. You're a very fair t-ball coach, I'd love to entrust my finances to you! You  know, I've just been sitting around soccer practice hoping that someone would offer to solve all my legal woes -- please do go to your car and get me a DVD about your services! (at least that one gets me a few minutes of peace...)

I've have successfully cultivated a "leave-me-alone" persona that works great on airplanes, but I've been trying to be somewhat more approachable in my parenting life. But I'm seriously considering earphones and perhaps a lengthy, urgent, phony call  for our next soccer practice...

Ships Passing in the Night...

I had 3 business trips over the past 7 days (yes, over most of the weekend, too). When I arrived home well after midnight last night, Thomas was waiting up to say hello. Which was especially nice given that he left for Florida first thing this morning to enjoy spring training with the rest of the Fowlkes clan. He'll be gone until Sunday. We should get one week together, before he goes into tech for a week, followed by my travel picking back up in April.

If you're reading this... hi, honey! Carter and I ate nothing but doughnuts for dinner tonight. (Happy Fat Tuesday!).
