Homemade Halloween

This is actually Carter's secondary Halloween costume. On Halloween night, he'll be playing karate kid (the original). But since he also needs to dress up for afterschool on Wednesday, and because his school usually does book character dress-up day sometime in the fall, we created this additional costume.

Afterwards, I took a ballpoint pen and wrote Anaklusmos on it for him to carry in his pocket. He was excited until he realized that it did not, in fact, turn into a sword. (This probably only makes sense to you if you're familiar with the books).

We are currently reading book 3, having finished book 2 recently and having just seen the second movie this weekend.

Given that my natural interest in books aligns very closely with that of tween boys and teen girls, this is my second time through them, but it's fun to be enjoying them together!

Can you guess who he is?

Later this week, Carter will be performing a monologue he wrote for his This Land Is Our Land unit at school. We just finished his costume. Can you guess who he is playing?

Christmas Pajamas

My family always had a tradition of opening one present each on Christmas Eve. And that present was always new pajamas. Last year, I got Carter and Thomas matching pajamas, which Carter LOVED. He still makes Thomas wear his whenever Carter puts his on. My only issue with Christmas pajamas is that I don't want them to necessarily be Christmas-y. I want to be able to wear them year round. So, this year, I went a slightly different route and got all three of us coordinating, but decidedly non-Christmas-y, pajamas. We did a short video of the pajamas for you.

New Boots

Carter loves the new boots that Mama Helen got him (just like Aunt Kir's!). He's been wearing them pretty much every day since he got them!

Yes, he did strike that pose all on his own...

Classic Carter

That's my boy. Camo pants and glittery shoes, with a ball, a book and a big grin.

Patches

I don't think we got Carter enough pairs of pants for this winter season. First, we're constantly having to do laundry because he's out of pants. Second, almost all his pants now have holes in the knees due to wear. Since we're pretty close to shorts season, I've just been patching them up. Here, Carter shows off a pair of pants (only two months old!) with star patches.

Here he is in another pair with a very cute caterpillar and a bumble bee. He also has a pair of jeans with a baseball patch , but I didn't get pictures of those yet.

Similar to his reaction to my homemade rainbow pasta and thematically colored milk for special days, he seems to like the fun patches, but maybe just not quite as much as I do...

Fashion Statement

Carter has taken to dressing and accessorizing himself lately. Here are two of his ensembles.

Fashion Experiments

I got pretty experimental in high school with some of my fashion choices. I was known to alter or make my own clothes to get exactly the look I was going for. Since my parents are moving, my mom has been cleaning out and recently sent me some of my experiments. I don't feel a need to keep these anymore, so they are being purged in preparation for our own move, but I thought you'd enjoy seeing some of my high school handiwork.

I know these aren't fashionable now, and I have a sinking feeling that they weren't back then either...

Sadly, my car wash skirt seems to have disappeared.

Fall Clothes

We did a little shopping last weekend to get some fall clothes for Carter. He really enjoys being dressed, so he was happy to model a few things for you.

We ended up getting 6-9 month sizes in onesies and overalls. They weren't too too big, and we figure we'll get more use out of them, since he'll probably outgrow the 3-6 month size pretty quickly. We have a pediatrician visit next week so we'll get the scoop on his height/weight then. Posted by Picasa

New Pajamas!

Here are some pics of Carter in his new pajamas. We actually received these as a gift a while ago, but they are 3-6 month size, which Carter has just started wearing. He's still squeezing in to some of his 0-3 month size clothes, but they won't fit for long! He grew 3 inches in his first four weeks of life, but his second month he slowed down and only grew an additional 3/4 of an inch. Even so, (not surprisingly) he's still in the 99th percentile in length (almost 25 inches) and in the 75th percentile in weight (about 13 pounds).

Yes, the green bottoms are baby boxers. So cute.
